Police arrest suspect involved in Jal el-Dib shooting

BEIRUT: Police Tuesday arrested one out of two men suspected of killing a 45-year-old man, who died of gunshot wounds in Jal el-Dib earlier in the day, north of Beirut.

The Internal Security Forces said on its Twitter feed that the man, A.S., was apprehend at a hospital in Burj al-Barajneh and that he was wanted for robberies, theft and drug-related offenses.

Early Tuesday,a man grew suspicious of two men on a motorcycle headed to the Metn area. When he attempted to stop them the three engaged in verbal altercations, minutes before one of the suspects fired shots in the air.

A bullet hit one suspect while the other continued to fire shots in the direction of the Mar Takla Square, killing Elias Kfoury, a shop owner.

The two men, who were able to flee the square, were suspected robbers.

Police arrived at the scene of the crime and launched an investigation and took witness statements.
