BEIRUT: A text message campaign has raised $230,000 for the Lebanese Army after being launched when the military came under assault by Syrian rebels in Arsal earlier this month.

Telecoms Minister Boutros Harb told Army commander Gen. Jean Kahwagi Wednesday that the joint campaign Lebanon's two mobile carriers, Alfa and touch, totaled over $230,000 in less than a month.

The final sum was reached after $1 for every empty SMS sent to 1106 was donated to the Lebanese Army.

In further appreciation of the Army’s efforts, Harb conveyed to the Army commander his gratitude to the military for sacrifices made while defending Lebanon.
