BEIRUT: Michel Sleiman is working to establish a new front in support of Lebanon’s disassociation policy from regional conflicts, an issue the former president championed while in office, leading to the Baabda Declaration.

Local newspaper Al-Liwaa said Friday that Sleiman’s new “Baabda Declaration Front” would include all those who believed in the disassociation policy and the value of keeping Lebanon neutral in the face of regional tensions and crises.

Sleiman said that following a “thorough study of this important political project” he would send out invitations to Speaker Nabih Berri and Prime Minister Tammam Salam as well as to former Parliament speakers and former heads of government, in addition to other political leaders who have expressed support for the Baabda Declaration.
