Mikhail Bogdanov, Russian deputy foreign minister, will pay a one-day visit to Lebanon Friday to commemorate the establishment of diplomatic ties between Lebanon and Russia, and will meet with various politicians.Bogdanov is also scheduled to meet with politicians on his trip, according to Zasypkin. The presidential vacuum, Lebanon's failure to hold parliamentary elections on time, the socio-economic repercussions of the presence of around 1.1 million Syrian refugees on Lebanese territory and the rising threat of terrorism are all topics expected to be tackled by Bogdanov.Zasypkin said Russia would try to be mediating force in Lebanon's political crisis, as it had been throughout the Syrian crisis. Russia is eager to see continued dialogue between rival sides of the Syrian crisis as well, Zasypkin said, but he added that Moscow would not directly intervene in the Syrian political arena.
