At a news conference, Raad said he saluted Russia for trying to reach peaceful solution to the conflict in Syria, while accusing "the other camp" of being unwilling to come to the table for a compromise.Russia has been Syria's main international backer since the conflict erupted in March 2011 . Bassil spoke of the common points and the good relations between Russia and Lebanon, stressing that both countries are facing similar challenges when it comes to terrorism.According to Sleiman's office, the former president said he stressed during the meeting with the Russian official on the need to keep Lebanon neutral in the Syria war and the importance to commit to the Baabda Declaration, which seeks to maintain Lebanon's neutrality regarding regional conflicts.Sleiman also urged Russia it increase its military support to help bolster the Lebanese Army's capabilities in its war against terrorism. Bogdanov had explained that his trip would focus on ties between Russia and Lebanon.
