BEIRUT: Lebanon will overcome its crisis and the Army will continue to combat terrorism, Lebanese Army chief Gen. Jean Kahwagi said before concluding his visit to Saudi Arabia on Monday.

“All the incidents that are strange to our Lebanese society and the norms and traditions of Lebanese families are interim and transient. We will get over them together by holding on to Lebanese co-existence,” Kahwagi said during a reception organized by the Lebanese community in Riyadh.

Kahwagi returned to Beirut Monday, concluding his three-day visit to Saudi Arabia during which he followed up on the recently announced $3 billion Saudi grant to help equip the Lebanese Army.

The Army commander, accompanied by a military delegation, met with high-ranking Saudi officials and discussed the grant details Riyadh recently announced it would give to support the military.

“The Army will also continue to fight terrorism and it is always ready to confront the Israeli enemy and foil its plans,” Kahwagi added.

The army chief also said that Lebanon was going through a critical phase but that the Lebanese chose to hold on to their unity and distance themeselves from divisions.
