Rifi denies reports of Cabinet ambitions

BEIRUT: Former Head of the Internal Security Forces Maj. Gen. Ashraf Rifi Monday denied reports that he was seeking a post in the new Cabinet, the National News Agency reported.

Rifi’s remarks were made during a visit to the Maronite bishopric in Tripoli to congratulate Bishop George Abu Jaoudeh on St. Maroun Day.

“I didn’t discuss the formation of the Cabinet. I’m not seeking a Cabinet portfolio or any other public office.

I just want to serve my country wherever I am, whether I work within or outside the Cabinet,” he told reporters.

“We are here to restore the genuine face of Tripoli, the face of coexistence and compassion.

We have been brought up in this city, which believes in national values and coexistence. We have to reinstate the real face of Tripoli.”
