BEIRUT: Three Lebanese and a Syrian have been arrested in connection with a theft ring targeting cars and motorcycles, a police statement said Tuesday.
The statement said the gang members were nabbed in separate arrests Saturday in Bedawwi and Abi Samra, in the northern city of Tripoli, and in the coastal town of Halat, just north of Beirut.
It said the detainees confessed to stealing cars and motorcycles from Beirut, Mount Lebanon and north Lebanon.
They also confessed that three other individuals were involved in several robberies.
The detainees said they spent the money they made from selling some of the stolen items.
Three automobiles – two worn-out vans and an old Hyandai – and two unlicensed 9-mm pistols found in their possession were also confiscated, the statement added.
The police said a manhunt was launched for the arrest of the other accomplices while interrogation is ongoing with the four detainees.
