U.S. senators visit to discuss aid for refugees

BEIRUT: A delegation from the U.S. Senate paid an official visit to Lebanon Wednesday to address the Syrian refugee problem, according to a U.S. Embassy statement. 

The delegation, which included Senators Tim Kaine and Angus King, met with President Michel Sleiman, Prime Minister Tammam Salam, Army commander Gen. Jean Kahwagi and UNHCR country representative Ninette Kelley. 

The visit focused on U.S. humanitarian assistance to Lebanon to deal with the influx of refugees. 

The senators also welcomed the formation of the new Cabinet.
