BEIRUT: Beirut airport customs thwarted Monday two attempts to smuggle a large quantity of pure cocaine from Venezuela into the Lebanon, a source at the airport told The Daily Star.

The drugs were seized from two Turkish men coming from Venezuela on separate flights. They were both arrested.

The first man, who arrived via France, carried about two kilograms of the drug. The second, traveling via Abu Dhabi, had 5.5 kilograms.

Both were referred to the Central Anti-Drug Office in Beirut.
