BEIRUT: Maronite Patriarch Beshara Rai said Tuesday the election of a new president would lead to the revival of state institutions and would properly set Parliament into motion.
“The election of a new president will breathe new life into the nation, institutions, the government and Parliament, thus relieving the Lebanese people,” Rai said.
Praising the formation of a new Cabinet by Prime Minister Tammam Salam on Feb. 1, Rai called on rival political factions to help elect a new head of state before President Michel Sleiman’s term expires on May 25.
“I wish success for this new Cabinet in all matters. I hope it will do what it can to meet the needs of the Lebanese and their aspirations.”
