BEIRUT: Belgian Foreign Affairs Minister Didier Reynders said his country was willing to host refugees, after meeting with senior Lebanese officials Friday.
“The aim of my visit was to discuss a means of alleviating the suffering of Syrian refugees in Lebanon and all those who are suffering the repercussions of the Syrian crisis,” Reynders said after meeting with caretaker Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour.
He said Belgium was eager to help by hosting refugees, “but it also wants to help other hosting countries, especially in neighboring countries like Turkey, Iraq, Jordan and especially Lebanon, which is burdened with a large number of refugees,” he said.
Later, Reynders met with the head of the Future bloc Fouad Siniora to express his government’s condolences after the killing of former Minister Mohammad Shatah and discuss the political situation.
