BAALBEK, Lebanon: Hezbollah held a funeral Sunday in the Bekaa Valley for a fighter killed in battles against opposition groups in rural Damascus.
Mustafa Mohammad al-Kayyal was killed in Syria, and laid to rest in Baalbek only three days after Hezbollah commander Hussein Habib was buried in Lebanon.
Habib’s body was repatriated following his torture and killing by rebels nine months ago.
Kayyal’s funeral was followed by intense shooting, which severely wounded a Syrian man who was admitted to a public hospital in Baalbek.
Marking a week since Habib’s funeral, Hezbollah officials and city residents gathered at the Husseiniyah to mourn him before participating in Kayyal’s funeral.
Caretaker Agriculture Minister Hussein Hajj Hasan spoke at the commemoration a week after Habib’s funeral and stressed the importance of forming an all-embracing Cabinet to prevent a power vacuum in the country.
