BEIRUT: Authorities at Beirut airport foiled an attempt to smuggle 3.4 kilograms of Captagon tablets to a Gulf country, a police statement said Tuesday.
The statement said the foiling took place on Sunday.
It said narcotic pills, packed in plastic bags, were found hidden in the sides of the suitcase of a 28-year-old Syrian man, identified only by his initials A.Q.
The statement said the man had planned to leave for a Gulf country on Dec. 5, the same day he entered Lebanon.
The Syrian suspect and the confiscated drugs were referred to the Central Anti-Drug office in Beirut for further investigation, the statement added.
Last October, a similar attempt by a Syrian national to smuggle 5 kilograms of Captagon tablets to an Arab country was thwarted at Beirut airport.
