SIDON, Lebanon: An Israeli army unit crossed the technical fence near the southern village of Mais al Jabal in Marjayoun and tossed a smoke grenade causing a small fire in the fields.

The force, comprised of 10 soldiers, crossed Wednesday morning the technical fence and stayed in the area for about an hour, a security source told The Daily Star.

The move prompted the Lebanese Army and U.N. Interim Force in Lebanon to increase their deployment in the area.

Two months ago, the Israeli army crossed the technical fence in the same area, causing panic among farmers who were picking olives.
