BEIRUT/TRIPOLI, Lebanon: A Syrian refugee was arrested for strangling his eight-month-old son to death because he was crying, security sources said Tuesday.

The sources said Hasan Ayesh smothered his son late Monday in their home in Miniara, in the northern province of Akkar, because he wouldn’t stop crying.

Ayesh buried his son near their home, thinking that he might get away with his crime, the sources told The Daily Star.

They said neighbors reported the suspicious activity to the police who launched an investigation.

Ayesh was arrested a few hours later at a store in the northern town of Kousha, according to the sources.
