BEIRUT: A former official in MP Walid Jumblatt’s Progressive Socialist Party was found shot dead Thursday in Mount Lebanon. “We are still trying to figure out the motives behind the killing,” PSP Secretary-General Zafer Nasser told The Daily Star after the discovery of the body of Sami Marroush, 50.
Marroush worked as a dentist and also owned a security company in Lebanon.
He was shot twice, once in the neck and once in the chest, according to a security source, who added that no weapons were found at the scene.
Conflicting reports placed the body either in the victim’s vehicle or outside in an area he often visited during his morning walk. After news emerged of his death, several individuals took to the streets and burned tires to block a road in Aley.
Jumblatt issued a statement emphasizing his confidence in the security forces to investigate the apparent murder, and called for “total calm” in the meantime.
Aley MP Akram Shehayeb announced he would receive condolences at his residence. “We are not the kind of people who rush into pointing fingers and making speculations,” he said.
