Lebanese teen in Michigan committed suicide: police
A+ A-

BEIRUT: U.S. officials said Thursday that the death of a Lebanese teenager in Michigan was a suicide, confirming earlier rumors that had circulated on social media.

Dearborn police said Assil Srour Makki, who celebrated her 19th birthday just two weeks ago, died of a gunshot wound in her house Tuesday and the death was not being treated as suspicious, according to report in the Arab American News.

Makki, who reportedly moved to the U.S. when she was 13, was married a little over a year ago and is survived by her 8-month-old son.

Her funeral was held Thursday afternoon at the Islamic Institute of Knowledge in Dearborn. She will be buried in her hometown of Batoulieh, near Tyre.
