BEIRUT: Future bloc head Fouad Siniora Thursday denounced the suspected revenge killing of a Palestinian teen as a “barbaric murder,” blaming “racist” Israeli policies for spiraling violence between Arabs and Israelis.

“The kidnapping and slaying of Palestinian boy Mohammad Abu Khdair is the most heinous and atrocious crime that could be committed against youth and humanity,” Siniora said.

“Israel is fully responsible for the deterioration of the situation in the occupied territories to such an ugly scale, a result of Israel’s racist, suppressive and vindictive policies,” he added.

Siniora stressed that the “literal slaying” of innocents is to be completely rejected, regardless of which side they belong, saying that there is no justification for murder.

Abu Khdair, 16, was kidnapped and killed in suspected retribution for the murder of three Israeli teenage settlers, for whose abduction and killing Israel blames Hamas.

Siniora also urged the international community to act firmly to curb Israel’s expansionist policies, stressing that mere international condemnation of Abu Khdair’s murder is not sufficient to deter Israel and defuse tensions.

Khdair's killing sparked protests in occupied east Jerusalem where hundreds of Palestinian youths threw stones at Israeli security forces, who retaliated with sound bombs, tear gas and rubber-coated bullets.
