BEIRUT: The American University of Beirut said Thursday its medical center, AUBMC, has received institutional accreditation from a leading US medical organization, the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education – International (AGGME-I) , becoming the first in Lebanon and fourth worldwide to obtain such recognition.

“We are extremely proud of achieving this accreditation, a milestone achievement which would not have been possible without the tremendous effort and dedication displayed by our medical education team,” said an AUBMC statement .

Under ACGME-I regulations, graduates from medical school go through specialist training supervised by senior clinicians. The physicians are regularly assessed on their medical knowledge, professionalism and clinical skills.

“This ensures the aspiring specialist doctors are well-trained and equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to provide excellent care by the time they finish their training which spans for four to six years,” the statement said.

The accreditation which started on July 1st is effective for two years.
