UK Envoy hails security forces “professionalism”

BEIRUT: British Ambassador to Lebanon Tom Fletcher on Tuesday hailed the performance and professionalism of Lebanese security forces in maintaining national security and countering tremendous threats arising from a turbulent Middle East.

Fletcher also expressed strong solidarity with the security forces, calling for extending effective support to enable them to fully carry out their duties.

“A turbulent region presents fresh threats,” Fletcher told reporters following a meeting with Interior Minister Nohad Machnouk.

“Lebanon’s friends and allies must show that we are on the side of the people of Lebanon, and security forces defending them with such courage and professionalism,” he added.

The National News Agency said the meeting was attended by Gen. Pierre Salem, head of the security cell attached to the ministry of interior.

Fletcher said talks focused on assessing security threats and exploring means and ways to confront them.
