BEIRUT: The Lebanese Forces Thursday condemned Israeli aggression toward Gaza, warning the international community that a prolonged crisis would plunge the entire region into chaos.
“The Lebanese Forces deplore the escalating Israeli aggression toward Gaza, which does not exclude civilians such as children, women and the elderly,” the group said in a statement.
"Such aggression is unjustifiable by all political, security and humanitarian standards," it said. "Both the Arab and the international community are asked to take immediate action to stop what is happening as soon as possible, for the sake of the innocent lives and to prevent a deterioration that might affect the entire region, leading to chaos and producing results no one could ever imagine.”
At least 76 Palestinians have been killed so far in Israeli air raids targeting Gaza, the most serious hostilities between Israel and Hamas since 2012. The conflict escalated Monday with the Israeli bombardment, the latest in a series of reactions on both sides following the abduction and murder of three Jewish seminary students in the occupied West Bank and the retaliatory murder of a Palestinian teenager.
Hamas militants have also kept up rocket attack against Israel, sending residents into shelters.
