Six hours of heated debate in Cabinet over LU
Labor Minister Sejaan Azzi blamed Education Minister Elias Bou Saab for the failure.
“He [Bou Saab] had failed when he tied the official exams to the salary scale, and today, he failed because he tied the Lebanese University issue to politics,” Azzi told An-Nahar.
Azzi also criticized Bou Saab for torpedoing the “principle of consensus” decisions adopted by the government.
LU issue breaks consensus
The Cabinet broke the consensus Thursday due to the dispute between some political forces over the LU issue, which prevented the approval of the appointment of deans of faculties and granting about 1,200 LU contract professors full-time status.
Hands off LU
Conspiring against the national Lebanese University is not new. But instead of restoring the university’s national and unification role in time of civil peace and reconstruction, LU has been punished due to “modern” economic, social and educational policies.
