BEIRUT: The bodies of two Syrians were found on Lebanese beaches Monday after they drowned Sunday night, and a search is underway to find an 8-year-old who is also thought to have drowned.

The bodies of Rajab Abed Kassem, 38, and Ali Khalaf Berro, 21, were found beaches in Sidon and Antelias, respectively, after they drowned swimming in the Mediterranean Sunday night, a security source told The Daily Star.

Rayss Moustapaha Silou, the 8-year-old Syrian child, was reported missing by his uncle after the two were swimming together at Okaybeh beach. Naval rescue teams from Civil Defense are carrying out a search for Silou’s body, the source added.

Civil Defense had warned the residents of Lebanon Sunday of strong waves, asking them to avoid swimming in the sea that night.
