BEIRUT: The brother of Minister of State Mohammad Fneish, who was convicted of illegally importing drugs into the country, was released on bail Monday. Fneish is one of Hezbollah’s two ministers in the government.
Mount Lebanon Judge Abdel-Rahim Hammoud agreed to release Abdul Latif Fneish on LL5 million bail. A judicial source said Fneish spent a year and a half in detention, serving the sentence he was given.
In late 2012, Fneish was charged with forging official documents and laboratory reports, as well as putting public health at risk by allowing unlicensed drugs into the country and distributing them into the market. Media reports Monday said Fneish confessed to forging then Health Minister Ali Hasan Khalil’s signature on 90 documents.
