BEIRUT: A Lebanese couple was among 298 people on board a Malaysia Airline passenger plane that was downed over Ukraine, a security source said Friday.

They were identified as Albert Rizk and his wife, Marie.

Lebanon's Foreign Ministry confirmed that a couple holding dual Lebanese-Australian nationality had been on the downed plane.

The Australian newspaper Herald Sun said Sunbury couple Albert and Marie Rizk were due to return home Friday after spending a monthlong holiday in Europe.

The Rizks have two children and have lived in the Sunbury area for more than 20 years, the Herald Sun said.

Flight MH17 was en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur when it was shot down by a missile over rebel-held territory near Ukraine's border with Russia Thursday.
