BEIRUT: Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil will send two letters to the International Criminal Court requesting Israel and extremist groups in Iraq to be investigated for their recent actions.
The first will ask for Israel to be tried for committing war crimes in its ongoing assault against Gaza, while the second will demand a probe into extremist groups for expelling and targeting Christians in the Iraqi city of Mosul.
The move comes at the request of the Cabinet, who met Thursday. Both letters will be sent to the ICC general prosecutor. Most Christians left Mosul during the last few weeks after ISIS, which took control of the city last month, asked them to either convert to Islam, pay a religious tax (jizya) or face death.
