SIDON, Lebanon: Some 20 Palestinian refugee children in the southern port city of Sidon resorted Sunday to art to express their solidarity with Gazan children amid the ongoing Israeli bombardment of the tiny besieged territory.

During the event organized by Palestinian Democratic Youth Association, which is affiliated with the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, the children performed expressionistic scenes depicting the victims of the war.

“This move aims at showing the extensiveness of the massacre that the Israelis are committing as they continue to target civilians,” said Youssef Ahmad, an official at the Palestinian Democratic Youth Association

The fighting has been going on for roughly 20 days and has killed more than 1,000 Palestinians, most of whom are civilians. This includes hundreds of children. Some 5,870 people have been injured.

Finding comfort in the Palestinian flag, the children covered themselves with it and laid down in front of passers-by on one the pavements in Sidon. Next to them posters read, “Your silence is killing us," accusing international and Arab powers of doing too little to end the aggression.

“This scene embodies the heinous masscares in Gaza amid the Arab and international silence,” said Fouad Othman, Sidon's representative of the Democratic Front.

Earlier this month, 16-year-old Mohammad Abu Khdair was kidnapped and killed by Israeli settles as revenge for the murder of three Israeli teenage settlers, who went missing on June 12.

The Israeli government blamed Hamas for their kidnapping and death, but Israeli Police Foreign Press Spokesman Micky Rosenfeld Friday told a BBC correspondent that it was a lone cell "affiliated but not operating under [the group's] leadership."
