BEIRUT: A Lebanese man Thursday was briefly kidnapped in the Bekaa Valley, while his abductors robbed his house and the shop he owns.

Nicolah al-Murr was in the Bekaa village of Talia when a black Jeep Cherokee carrying a group of masked men approached and grabbed him, a security source told The Daily Star.

During his abduction, masked men stormed his house, stealing the jewels he had stashed and then proceeded to rob his shop as well.

He was released several hours later.

The rising phenomenon of abductions in the Bekaa has prompted the government to draft a security plan for the region to curb these crimes and restore law and order.
