TRIPOLI, Lebanon: The wife of a Lebanese Forces lawmaker in north Lebanon had surgery after being shot overnight Sunday, sources close to the family said.
The sources said that Koura MP Fadi Karam’s wife, Julie, was hit by a bullet in her stomach “by mistake” while the couple was on their way back from a late-night party.
The sources said the incident happened when one of the bodyguard’s guns accidently went off.
The woman was transferred to a local hospital and underwent surgery to remove the bullet, the sources said.
She remains in stable condition, they added.
A statement from Karam’s office said “there was no attack” against the lawmaker’s wife.
“Mrs. Julie Karam got accidentally shot, that's all, she is in good condition and there is no need to worry,” the statement said.
