Bodyguard shoots Tripoli MP’s wife ‘by mistake’

TRIPOLI, Lebanon: The wife of a Lebanese Forces lawmaker in north Lebanon had surgery after being shot in the early hours Sunday, sources close to the family said.

The sources said that Koura MP Fadi Karam’s wife, Julie, was hit by a bullet in her stomach “by mistake” while the couple was on their way back from a late-night party when one of the bodyguard’s guns went off accidently. The woman was transferred to a local hospital and is in stable condition, they added.

“Mrs. Julie Karam was accidentally shot, that’s all; she is in good condition, and there is no need to worry,” a statement from Karam’s office said.
