One dead after gunfire in Syrian refugee site

BEIRUT: Unidentified assailants opened fire at a Syrian refugee center on the outskirts of the northeastern border town of Arsal, killing a man and wounding another. Two others were kidnapped in the overnight shooting.

A security source told The Daily Star that the shooting took place around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Arsal area of Ajram.

The source identified the fatality as 31-year-old Syrian Ahmad al-Badawi, adding that the wounded, Majd al-Badawi, was his relative.

The attackers also kidnapped Atef al-Badawi and Mahmoud al-Badawi before fleeing the scene.

The source said the Badawis were from Syria's Qalamoun region, adding that the incident appeared to be over a personal dispute.
