BEIRUT: MP Ibrahim Kanaan said Tuesday that an agreement over the salary scale is possible, despite deep divisions over the proposed law.

“We are trying to limit disagreement between different parliamentary blocs,” Kanaan following a meeting of MP Michel Aoun’s Change and Reform bloc.

Kanaan read a statement by the bloc defending the party's stance.

“Everything we do is in Lebanon’s interest, even if we and General Aoun are crucified several times over because of our positions,” the statement said.

The statement lauded the party's "patriotic" attitude, citing the alliance with Hezbollah, the formation of the new cabinet and warming relations with former Prime Minister Saad Hariri’s Future bloc.

It also highlighted Aoun’s comments in 2006, when he predicted that the situation in Iraq was very dangerous.

“We are witnessing today and after 8 years that these predictions were unfortunately true,” the statement said.
