Syrian worker killed in partial building collapse

BEIRUT: A Syrian worker was killed and three others were injured when a wall collapsed on them during the demolition of an old building nearby in a Beirut district Wednesday.

The Internal Security Forces said on its twitter feed that the Syrian man, Ahmad K., died of severe wounds he sustained in the incident.

The building is in the Karm al-Zaytoun neighborhood of Ashrafieh.

Beirut Mayor Bilal Hamad said the wall collapsed on the construction crew, who were located next to an old building that was being demolished.

Speaking to a local television station, Hamad said the Beirut Municipality would suspend the demolition of the old building until the licensed party guarantees safety on the site.
