BEIRUT: Prime Minister Tammam Salam Thursday pledged to protect Lebanon from the dangers of regional conflicts, particularly the civil war in neighboring Syria.

“We won’t allow anyone to mess with Lebanon’s security and stability,” Salam said in a speech at the opening of the Arab Economic Forum in Beirut.

“We will work with all our strength and willpower to buttress our country against the effects of the fire from our neighbors, near and far,” he vowed.

Salam said Lebanon would rely on the Lebanese Army and security forces to protect the country from the effects of the regional conflicts.
