BEIRUT: Police said Tuesday that they had arrested a man who confessed to raping his daughter and forcing his children to work as beggars, after his wife reported him to the Moral Protection Department of the Internal Security Forces.
In a statement, the ISF said social service worker Abir al-Hajj along with a Syrian woman, identified only as Walidah, had filed a complaint on behalf of the woman's 15-year-old daughter on June 20 against the father.
The women told the police that the father had also “forced his daughter to lose her virginity under torture and violence.”
The girl, identified by her initials as W.N., told the police that her father had raped her two weeks ago in secret.
The girl said her father asked her disabled brother to go to his room, then he tore her clothes off and raped her. She said this happened twice.
Police arrested the father in Naameh, south of Beirut. The ISF said he confessed to the allegations against him and to forcing his children to work as beggars.
“If the amount [brought back] per child was less than LL10,000, he would tear the money, beat the child and threaten him” police said, quoting the father, adding that the man abused drugs.
All the children were taken from the home and placed in social services centers. The couple had 22 children, including 12 underage boys.
