BEIRUT: Interior Minister Nouhad Machnouk held a meeting Wednesday with officials from Tripoli and other northern cities to discuss the security plan and the tense security situation in the country.
“Machnouk said that the battle for security in Lebanon, especially in the north, has been won, and can’t be lost anymore, [since] that is the will of the masses and the will of the people and the will of the citizens and the will of the city of Tripoli” Social Affairs Minister Rashid Derbas said shortly after the meeting.
The meeting, which was followed by a lunch, was attended by several MPs representing northern districts.
Melkite Catholic Bishop Issam Darwish expressed his satisfaction with the progress of the security plan in the Bekaa Valley, in Zahle specifically.
Darwish said that he had “noticed with the start of the tourism season that there is a boom in the area of Zahle, which generates a sign of relief when the reflection of the security plan is positive to the public,” expressing hopes that the stability would soon take over the entire country.
