17-year-old Lebanese girl commits suicide

BEIRUT: A 17-year-old apparently committed suicide Wednesday in her house in north Lebanon, a security source said.

According to preliminary investigation, the girl used a hunting rifle to shoot herself in the head, the source, speaking on condition of anonymity, told The Daily Star.

The parents were at home at the time of the incident in the Akkar village of Al-Swayseh.

The source said the girl, identified by her initials as S.M., had threatened to disappear from her parents’ lives.

Earlier Wednesday, a man identified as Abdul Aziz Hazimeh apparently committed suicide by shooting himself with a hunting rifle in the coastal city of Sidon, according to El-Nashra.
