Officials discuss building new airport facilities

BEIRUT: Defense Minister Samir Moqbel chaired a meeting Monday to consider means to construct new facilities at Rafik Hariri International Airport.

Transport and Public Works Minister Ghazi Zeaiter, who attended the meeting at the airport, told The Daily Star that officials discussed moving Army personnel stationed at the airport to another location within the airport to make room for the construction of new facilities.

"A final agreement was reached on the map today and this has yet to be discussed by technicians from the Transport and Public Works Ministry and the Defense Ministry," Zeaiter said.

The meeting was also attended by Brig. Gen. Ghassan Chahine, representatives from Civil Aviation and airport security personnel.
