BEIRUT: Interior Minister Nouhad Machnouk asked Wednesday that religious preachers relay moderate messages during their Friday sermons.
Machnouk made the remarks while receiving a delegation from the Muslim Scholars Commission who came to request that he speed up the trials of Islamist detainees and release those found to be innocent of the accusations against them.
Machnouk asked that sheikhs be moderate in their sermons as Lebanon was passing through a difficult and delicate stage.
He added that he had three priorities as interior minister: resolving the security situation in Tripoli, forming a committee of religious men and specialists to follow up on the rise of suicide bombings and improving prison conditions.
