BEIRUT: Investigative Military Judge Fadi Sawwan issued an arrest warrant Friday for suspected terrorist financier Omar Juenieh, while releasing the suspect’s son, Jalaleddine, on bail.

Judicial sources told The Daily Star that both father and son were interrogated in the presence of their lawyer, Tareq Shendeb, and that Jalaleddine was released on a L.L.500,000 bail.

Juenieh, better known as Omar al-Homsi, was detained by Army Intelligence late last month for allegedly financing terrorist groups in Lebanon.

Homsi and his son were later charged by the military prosecution with belonging to two Al-Qaeda-linked terrorist groups, the Nusra Front and the Abdullah Azzam Brigades.

They were also charged with facilitating the entry of booby-trapped vehicles from Syrian into Lebanon that were detonated in residential areas.

Jueineh is reportedly implicated in the case of detained terror suspect Naim Abbas, who charged of belonging to an armed group, plotting terror attacks in Lebanon and forging identification papers.

Abbas has also been charged in connection with the two Haret Hreik car bombings on Jan. 2 and Jan. 21, as well as with the murder and attempted murder of citizens.
