SIDON, Lebanon: Masked gunmen shot and killed a Fatah Movement official in the Palestinian refugee camp of Ain el-Hilweh Monday, security sources told The Daily Star.

Col. Jamil Zaydan was shot 17 times while he was walking toward his house, a medical source at the hospital where he was transferred said.

Zaydan recently became a member of the joint security committee in Ain el-Hilweh which is comprised of all Palestinian factions with the aims of maintaining security at Lebanon’s largest camp.
