Akkar food poisoning highlights destitution

BEIRUT: A family of 15 in the Akkar village of Bebnin suffered from food poisoning Monday, the National News Agency reported, raising concerns over poor health conditions in the area.

The family was rushed to Al-Kheir Hospital in Minnieh when they began vomiting and contracted diarrhea after eating stuffed zucchini for dinner.

Investigations are underway to identify which food component caused the poisoning.

Bebnin is a highly impoverished area of north Lebanon and the fact that the victims were transported to Minnieh for treatment demonstrates the extent of the state of depravation in the area
