BEIRUT: The policy of dropping the prices of medications will continue, Health Minister Wael Abu Faour said Wednesday, following a recent drop in the cost of 627 types of drugs. Speaking at a conference titled “Medicine in Lebanon: high prices and doubts about the low level of quality and safety,” Abu Faour also highlighted the development of a new policy in the field of drug quality. Additionally, Abu Faour said that 52 percent of Lebanese did not have medical insurance and pointed to an absence of pensions for the elderly. At the conference, organized by the Friends of Kamal Jumblatt League and the Civil Rally for the Safety of the Citizen, the minister also spoke about the quality of food, noting “the citizen is no longer protected from his intake of vegetables and meats and water.”
