Driver detained over deadly road accident

BEIRUT: A soldier was killed and five people were injured in collision on the Abdeh highway in north Lebanon early Saturday, security sources told The Daily Star.

The driver of one of the cars has been taken into custody, they added.

Soldiers Mohammad Amer Abboud and Bilal Abdel-Hadi Taleb along with civilians Hasan Ali and Eissa Sofan were in a VW Golf on the Abdeh Highway when their vehicle collided with a BMW.

Haitham Raef al-Hasan and Ali Ahmad Hasan were in the BMW.

The accident killed Abboud and injured five others, who were transferred to different hospitals.

A military police unit arrived to the scene of the accident and launched an investigation into the incident.
