BEIRUT: Prime Minister Tammam Salam saluted Monday journalists who sacrificed their lives in defense of Lebanon and the freedom of press.

“I salute the souls of Lebanese journalists who paid their lives as a price for their patriotic stances in defense of Lebanon and its sovereignty,” Salam said on the eve of the Martyrs of the Press Day.

Salam said he supports journalists and their right “to work within the largest margin of freedom within the constitution.”

“But I also rely on their national role and sense of responsibility and their contribution to easing tensions and enhancing national concepts of dialogue and tolerance,” he added.
