AUB returning students to face 3 percent tuition increase

BEIRUT: Students returning to the American University of Beirut can expect their tuition to increase by 3 percent, according to a final budget proposal announced by university President Peter Dorman Monday.

Meanwhile, tuition for new students will likely be increased 5 percent from the 2013-2014 rates. Additionally, dormitory and technology fees will not be increased next year under the projected plan.

The budget will be finalized when the Board of Trustees convenes at the end of May.

Dorman also promised increased transparency, promising to release “a series of documents” that will show how the university’s resources are allocated.

AUB students have staged a number of protests throughout the spring, demanding a freeze in tuition rates, greater transparency, and a greater say in the University’s fiscal policies.
