BEIRUT: The Lebanese should choose their new president, Saudi Ambassador Ali Awad Asiri said, adding that his country was keen on stability and consensus in Lebanon.

Asiri spoke to reporters after meeting with Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri in the Beirut neighborhood of Ain al-Tineh, before heading to the Grand Serail for a meeting with Prime Minister Tammam Salam.

A spokesman for Berri said before the meeting that the two men would discuss a range of issues, including the election, a day before a parliamentary session is set to take place.

However, the third round of voting Wednesday is unlikely to happen due to a lack of quorum, with many MPs refusing to attend without a consensus on a presidential candidate.
