BEIRUT: Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil met Thursday at his office in the ministry with Saudi Ambassador to Lebanon Al Awad Asiri, the National News Agency reported.

Asiri then left without making any statement, the NNA said.

MP Michel Aoun’s Free Patriotic Movement has adopted since last year a policy of 'openness' toward Saudi Arabia. This is Asiri's first official visit to Bassil’s office in the ministry.

The FPM has also been trying to convince the Future Movement, which is close to Saudi Arabia, to endorse Aoun as a new president.
