SIDON, Lebanon: The Israeli army Friday attempted to kidnap two Lebanese shepherds from the Shebaa Farms and confiscated hundreds of goats instead, a security source told The Daily Star.

The shepherds told authorities that Israeli soldiers had crossed the technical fence, which runs parallel to the Blue Line, the de facto Lebanon-Israel border, and tried to abduct them but they ran away, leaving behind their goats.

The Israelis then took the goats, which belonged to brothers Mohammad Hussein and Ismail Zahra, the source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said.

The soldiers withdrew back to the Israeli side of the fence.
